How positions and page numbers work
| Position | Google page | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1 – 3 | Page 1, top | Where most clicks go. Protect it with fresh content. |
| 4 – 10 | Page 1 | Visible. Better titles and answers can lift clicks fast. |
| 11 – 20 | Page 2 | Your quickest wins: improve the page and add internal links. |
| 21 – 50 | Pages 3 – 5 | Google sees the page as relevant but weak. It needs depth and links. |
| Not in top 50 | – | Create or rewrite a page focused on this keyword. |
Results come from a live Google search in the country you choose, with no personal history, through SerpApi. Google shows about 10 regular results per page; ads, maps and video boxes aren't counted. Need keyword ideas first? Try the keyword idea generator.
Questions about keyword rankings
How does the rank checker work?
It searches Google for your keyword from the country you choose, reads the first five pages of results (the top 50) and shows the position and Google page number where your website or page appears.
Why is my position different when I search myself?
Google personalizes results by location, device, search history and language, and results change during the day. The checker searches with no history, so it shows a neutral position. For your exact average position over time, use Google Search Console.
Should I enter my website or a specific page?
Enter your domain (yourbusiness.com) to find your best-ranking page for the keyword. Enter a full page address to check that page only. If a different page of your site ranks instead, the checker tells you which.
What does "page 2" mean?
Google shows about 10 regular results per page. Position 1 to 10 is page 1, 11 to 20 is page 2, and so on. Most clicks go to page 1, so a page-2 keyword is often the quickest win.
How many checks can I run?
Up to 5 a day, and the tool has a monthly limit across all users because it uses a free Google results service. Results are saved for 24 hours, so checking the same keyword again shows the saved result.
